Why choose the Wildcard option?

Standard SSL certificates are usually issued to a single FQDN, which may be a domain or a subdomain. It will only secure the exact FQDN to which it was issued. With a Wildcard SSL certificate you can secure an unlimited number of subdomains (on the same level). A Wildcard SSL certificate will also secure www., but it cannot secure a non-www. URL (ie. the domain only). This non-www. restriction is not specific to the DomainSSL Wildcard, it applies to all wildcard SSL certificates.
